You are lover of history and a photographer. This is a great opportunity to set up your own blog devoted to Tottenham. I don’t believe there are blogs done by locals/individual in the way Hackney or Croydon has. You would document the various things going on in the area whether it be crime, race, a new building going up (or perhaps the controversial new football ground); what do people think of gentrification or what do the ‘new’ people who moved to the area, think? There is just so much to cover. With the exception of the Tottenham Journal, I don’t believe there are any blogs from a local perspective.

You could interview the likes of David Lammy, the stall holders at the Farmers Market at Tottenham Green; the Romanian woman who sell the most scrumptious cakes on high road. What you ‘talk’ about does not have to be all moan and groan but also the positive stuff taking place. It would definitely focus on members of the black community but also views from other groups as well.

It would be a great opp to take good quality photos and as long as you are consistent (nothing worse than checking a blog that is not updated!) then I see no reason why it should not be successful.

Once you have all these things checked out then you would use it as a platform to approach key and influential people. Any event that is going on you’d be invited to do a review.

If you wanted to do a course on journalism, then there is the Chocolate Factory (behind Wood Green Library) that offers numerous courses on writing. you could also do a feature on the place because it also runs drama courses and I believe it put on plays at the Bernie Grant Centre.

There is a Facebook page called I grew up in Tottenham. You could join and use it to find out about the past of Tottenham as well as the present. It has a large membership and mainly people who no longer live in the area.

There is a site called Welcome to Summerhill Road. It’s a site devoted to a street in N15. I used to live two streets away from it, and it is one of my favourite streets as the houses are varied and beautiful. As the blog became so successful, it not only focus’ on the street but now the area.

I hope I’ve been of help. Let me know what you decide to do.
