I’m a Black Briton who watched the match. When it was time for the penalties, I turned down the volume and busied myself with various things because the tension was too much then later I turned to see Gareth Southgate, the manager, comforting one of the black players.

I turned up the volume and realized that England put forward the three black players to take up the penalty kicks, but of course, unfortunately, this did not happen. I thought ‘Oh no!’ and cringed as I quickly realized what was coming next.

But really, we over here know, that when a black Briton scores a goal, he is a Briton but when he fails to score, he quickly becomes something else. People are dealing with this as if its new, but it’s not.
