I was saddened by this article. Saddened by Marie who failed, throughout her time with Cyril (or perhaps, refused) to see her husband for what he was. Maybe love is blind in situations like this but as Cyril was never subtle in how he addressed her...if she did not want to see it, she should have at least felt it!

And besides, I do not understand why this should be seen as new. Black people or anyone with a thorough understanding of the matter should know, whether you are married, dating, befriending a white person...at some point racism will always navigates its way from the place where it sits within, to making itself heard through its host. So, we shouldn’t be surprised (especially us black folks) to hear a white partner of a mixed marriage, unexpectedly making racist remarks about their black partner or for a mixed-race child to make derogatory/racist remarks towards their black parent. And I have witnessed this, numerous times.

I would also like to add that I spent a short time in Geneva and felt that each interaction my husband (he is black) and I had with the Swiss, they were not particularly accommodating. But I realise, one, cannot generalize.
