I believe what is even more important is we are now talking about colorism within the black community. Once upon a time (and I’m way lot older than you) as a dark skinned black woman, not only was I set apart from white people but also from light skinned people, and it was painful. I believe it totally interfered with my self-esteem making it impossible to embrace who and what I am.
I realise it has a lot to do with how European looks over time has been so aggressively presented that we feel that true ‘beauty’ resides only within the white man. Nobody else.
Another good reason to be talking about this is the ‘colorists’ are showing their true colours! There are reality tv stars such Claudia Jordan who made an incredible comment about Omarosa. This shows that there are still a lot of us, out there who still harbour such horrible views. Yes, it is proper to forgive but it needs to be discussed more, brought out into the open where the colorists can be named and shamed.
