As a black woman studying a black studies course at a British University a long time ago, I was fascinated as well as offended that the white students on the course would constantly correct me in mannerisms, made sure I enunciated English words properly and if I felt a fellow student on the course was being racist towards me, it would be downplayed.

What I found interesting is that it never occurred to them to ‘correct’ their fellow white colleagues of their racism but always making it a point the need to keep me in check!
